Thinking of You: Mother’s & Father’s Day

Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day can present a great opportunity to give thanks and appreciation to those who raised you. But they are not always days of celebration. For some, these occasions can evoke a heightened sense of loss, confusion, loneliness or regret. For others who have lost or are estranged from loved ones, you may find yourself feeling the weight of a grief you thought had passed.

If this is the case, it is important to be gentle with yourself around these holidays. You might find it helpful to talk to a counsellor about the feelings and memories that arise, particularly if the strength of the emotions has caught you off guard, or is overwhelming. Counselling is a collaborative process where we can explore, unpack, and gain more insight around these internal experiences.
