I’m Carly and I have been working in the field of trauma since 2012, initially without realizing. Working for organizations and programs addressing mental health, homelessness, the justice system, education gaps, addictions, and physical health, I began to notice a common thread: that trauma and negative life experiences have lasting effects on many aspects of life, including overall wellness, and that the path to healing is often through exploring and addressing these past hurts.
Now, as a counsellor, I work from an attachment lens, which means that together we’ll consider how early experiences of care, neglect, and love influence your current life, wellness, and relationships. I also use an embodied approach, which means I guide you through exploring your body sensations and experiences along with memories, deeply held beliefs, emotions, and thoughts.
I strive to be mindful of where you’re at, what you are comfortable with and needing, and collaborate with you through the process. I balance warmth and care with honesty and genuineness and truly enjoy my work as a counsellor and psychotherapist. I will keep us both accountable to the goals we have set and to progress towards the life you want.
I have training and experience in and work using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), EFFT (Emotion Focused Family Therapy), among other types of psychotherapy. I specialize in working with people who have experienced early childhood or later in life trauma that continues to affect their functioning and well-being. I work with youth aged 14 and up as well as adults of any age.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with BCACC and have a Master’s in Family Relations and Human Development from the University of Guelph in Ontario.
