PLATELET-RICH PROTEIN FACIALS
WITH MICRONEEDLING

AKA VAMPIRE FACIAL

PRP can be used for skin regeneration: stimulating collagen in the skin, treats fine lines and wrinkles, and evens out skin texture including scars and stretch marks. PRP can also be used for hair regrowth: increasing blood supply to the follicles, increasing hair shaft size, maintaining growth phase of hair, and decreasing hair loss.

Normal blood is comprised of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets contain growth factors that are important for tissue regeneration and collagen production. Platelet—rich plasma is the portion of the blood that is rich in platelets.

A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm, then the blood is spun in a centrifuge to extract the platelets. The platelets are then injected into areas of concern (areas of hair loss, scars, wrinkles). The injections are followed by microneedling- helping to boost collagen production and elasticity, and reduce hyperpigmentation and scarring. The total procedure including blood draw should take about an hour.

We use a topical numbing cream that is applied prior to the treatment to minimize discomfort.

There can be possible swelling following the procedure. Your skin will be red that will last 3-4 hours, and residual redness can last for a few days. You may use makeup to cover any redness in the days following the procedure. There can also be possible bruising at the injection sites.

You will see some benefit immediately as the skin will feel tighter than before. However, it will be 3-4 weeks before the full results start to show as that is how long it takes for the collagen to build in the skin.

For each person this can be different and your naturopathic doctor will discuss the optimal plan for you. However, in general, the best results seem to be three initial sessions spaced one month apart with maintenance visits recommended 1-2 times a year.

Please:

  • Refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours before the treatment.
  • Refrain from taking NSAIDs (Aspirin, Advil, etc), gingko and fish oils 2 days prior to treatment as these will increase bleeding time.
  • Avoid excess sugars, trans fats and processed foods for 2 days before treatment as they will affect the quality of the blood.
  • Drink at least 2 litres of water the day of the appointment.
